About Me

“The close alliance that has always existed between the Gospel and art means that you are invited to use your creative intuition to enter into the heart of the mystery of the Incarnate God and at the same time into the mystery of man.”

- Pope St. John Paul II, Letter to Artists, 1999

My name is Theresa DiFranco. I graduated from Hillsdale College with a double major in Psychology and German, and a minor in Art. As such, I have a lot of interests, but as a young, Catholic artist in love with Jesus and His Church, I am on mission to share God’s love with the world through beauty. “Beauty is a key to the mystery and a call to the transcendent,” Pope St. John Paul II writes. I have experienced this, as studying and creating art has given me access to contemplating Goodness and Truth. I simply know God’s love better because of beauty, and it is my desire to make this gift of beauty available to all, so that everyone may come to know of God’s steadfast love and mercy.

I work mostly in oil paint and graphite, with a focus on the human figure and portraits (although I like to dabble in other subject matters and mediums). I was taught in the figurative/representational tradition, using the comparative method of drawing and painting, and I turn to John Singer Sargent as the primary guide and inspiration for my own study. I have a special passion for the beauty of God’s finest creation—man!—and I hope to fill the need in the Church for good religious art. When I’m not working directly from real objects or people, I use reference photos or illustrate imaginatively with a realistic cartoon style.

Thank you for visiting my website. You are in my prayers.
